Cush Drive Hub Conversion
Unlike most other motorcycles of the time the XS650 never had a cushion drive at the rear hub. Vernon Blair has made the conversion to a cushion drive and has been kind enough to share the process with us through a series of pictures taken as the conversion was carried out.
Sprocket Mount
The first task is to machine a sprocket mounting piece that will hold the sprocket.
Spacer Slots
Step 2 is to machine slots for the spacers that will allow the sprocket mount to attach to the rubbers.
Sprocket Mounting Spacers
Step 3 is to make the spacers to join the sprocket mounting ring to the rubbers inside the brake hub.
Fitting the Rubbers
Install the cushion drive rubbers and bolt them in.

Cover Plate
Finally a neat cover is made to hide the rubbers & bolts tying all of it together.
